May 2018 began with the excitement of us being together again after a month apart. The rainy season in Zambia ends as May begins and that signals the beginning of Village outreaches from the Mutoya base in Mongu to outlying areas.
It was within this first week in Zambia that a team returning from a medical outreach had a car accident. Sadly two Zambian ministry partners died and our Occupational therapist was badly injured. She is now on the road to recovery in RSA. Two other ministry partners were slightly injured. A challenging time for all but, looking back we see God was there all along. Many unexplained and amazing things took place with just the right people involved too.
Kevin and another missionary spent quite some time in building a recovery trailer to remove the wreck from the side of the road. We also helped transport a counsellor and the project leader to and from Katima Mulilo in Namibia to assist at that time.
Once a week Alex, Gerald and Mukelabai the interns doing a theological course, have a break from their books and go to Kevin in the workshop where he has been instructing them in vehicle checks, packing safely, changing a wheel and other necessities to equip them in the field.
At the campsite Carine works with Kwakwa and Muzozi in hospitality and hosting activities so that all is in order for visiting teams.
She has also worked daily at the Children’s homes and Occupational Therapy unit helping Connie in Megan’s absence.
Project News
We really enjoyed the Christian wedding of a Zambian couple who work within the project.
Teams from Somerset West and Tennessee also visited and worked on the base, amongst the community here and in the villages. How exciting it is to meet fellow Christians from far afield whose hearts have been touched with the need to reach out to Western Zambia.
Three wells were dug in May and teams taken into their communities to encourage and evangelize.
A truck bringing building and clinic supplies from RSA arrived and so the goal of equipping the missionaries and uplifting the community and local church so that they can bring a “Life giving Church “ to within walking distance of every village in Western Zambia is being realized.
As the month closes we reflect on what a privilege it is to journey with God here; whether the road be smooth or bumpy.
Thank you so much for your prayers, messages and support.
“Luitemezi”
Kevin and Carine Brand.
